MARYLAND ROADS EAT METAL.

The DMV gets heavy salt treatment every winter. That salt works into every seam, every crevice, every surface your vehicle touches the road with. Undercoating is the only reliable defense.

Maryland Road Salt Protection

Road salt accelerates corrosion dramatically. Our undercoating creates a sealed barrier between your vehicle's metal and the caustic salt and moisture that come with every winter.

Permanent Rubberized Barrier

Rubberized undercoating bonds to metal and cures into a thick, flexible shield that doesn't crack, peel, or wash away. Applied right, it lasts the life of the vehicle.

Deadens Road Noise

A welcome side effect: rubberized undercoating acts as a sound damper. Many customers notice a noticeably quieter ride after undercoating — especially on highway surfaces.

COMMON QUESTIONS.

The best time is when the vehicle is new, before any salt exposure — ideally before the first winter. If the vehicle is used, undercoating is still effective as long as the rust hasn't progressed to structural damage. We do undercoating year-round — fall and spring are popular, but any time works.

Both serve different purposes and work best together. Rubberized undercoating is ideal for flat exposed surfaces — it creates a thick, permanent rubber barrier. Oil-based (fluid film) penetrates into seams, crevices, and frame cavities that rubber can't reach. Many customers opt for both for maximum protection. We'll recommend the right approach for your vehicle.

Yes. For surface and minor pitting rust, we apply a rust neutralizer that converts active rust into a stable compound, then coat over it. More significant rust requires mechanical prep first. We inspect the vehicle and quote any additional prep work before starting — you'll never be surprised by charges.

Dealer undercoating is typically a thin spray applied in minutes — it's primarily a profit center for the dealer, not a serious rust protection solution. Professional undercoating from Capital Upfitters uses proper materials, applied with the right equipment, by specialists who do this every day. We see customers regularly who had dealer coating fail within two years. Don't waste the money — do it right.
